Appears high in the crossover with, 06AQANTXIII_4 which is OK. Suggest
correction of 0.96. This is same direction but larger than CARINA adjustment of
0.97. Prefer CARINA suggested adjustment. This is consistent with IO decision.
The data have significant scatter (similar to 35MF19930123), do not flag 3/4 as
this will create huge hole in coverage, but add note in cruise summary table.

Average of all cross-overs is: 1.128 (but especially that with cruise

Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of: 0.833
Considering the different cross-overs with their large variation, the offset of
silicate for cruise 35MF19960220 may have been overestimated. Cross-overs with
core cruises (06AQ19960317, 320619960503) suggest a smaller adjustment than that
suggested by the inversion.
I therefore suggest an adjustment of silicate for cruise 35MF19960220 amounting
to 0.90

Autogenerated CTD salinity and CTD oxygen update
Automated update! This overwrites adjustment values (and flags) of CTDoxy and
CTDsal with the values from BOTsal and BOToxy for every cruise, unless CTDsal
(or CTDoxy) is not present or bad.
Salinity action ID:3; no CTD salinity data. Setting CTD salinity offset to -999,
QC flag removed.
Oxygen action ID:3; no CTD oxygen data. Setting CTD oxygen offset to -999, QC
flag removed.

35MF19960220 - phosphate
New inversion for phosphate in the Atlantic with 10 core cruises assigned
suggests that the adjustment should be more than 0.97. The new mean offset of
1.048 supports this, aswell as most x-overs.
I suggest an adjustment of 0.96

The inversion suggested a correction of 1.0259 based on two crossovers with a
mean offset of 0.998. Same situation as for above cruise. No option than to let
06AQ19960317 decide, i.e 1.01 adjustment. Not consistent with CARINA. Use
CARINA, no adjustment

35MF19960220 - silicate
The inversion suggest a correction of 0.9251 and the mean offset is 1.066. This
is based on the xover with (3300)35MF19930123. Initially I recommend that this
cruise is adjusted using a factor of 0.93. CARINA suggest 0.9, at least
supporting that these data should be adjusted down compared to the other CIVA
cruise. Use CARINA, x0.9.

35MF19960220 - phosphate
The Atlantic Ocean Suggested correction was 0.9617 and mean offset is 1.048.

35MF19960220 - nitrate
AO suggested correction is 0.9866 and mean offset is 1.040, but just two
crossovers. One towards 35MFCIVA_1, and this is nearly OK, whereas the one vs.
06AQANTXIII_4 indicates it is 1.06 too high. However, 06AQANTXIII_4 is low and
should go up by 1.05, Do not adjust. Not consistent with CARINA suggests 0.96.
Prefer CARINA suggested adjustment.

35MF19960220 - oxygen
The inversion suggest a correction of 1.001 and the mean of the crossovers is

We suggest that no adjustment is applied.

The inversion suggest a correction of 0.90 and the mean of the crossovers is
1.12. No adjustment was applied to GLODAP but CARINA suggested an adjustment of
0.90. The crossover to 320619960503 is 1.09.

We suggest to follow the suggestion from CARINA; 0.97. This is particularly
motivated by the crossover with 320619960503.

UPDATE
After correction of the whole dataset the cross overs still show small
systematic offsets (around 0.99), suggesting that the adjustment of 0.95 could
be too large.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 0.96 for nitrate

35MF19960220 - silicate
Average of all cross-overs is: 1.128 (but especially that with cruise
74DI19950106 tends to increase the value strongly)
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of: 0.833
Considering the different cross-overs with their large variation, the offset of
silicate for cruise 35MF19960220 may have been overestimated. Cross-overs with
core cruises (06AQ19960317, 320619960503) suggest a smaller adjustment than that
suggested by the inversion.
I therefore suggest an adjustment of silicate for cruise 35MF19960220 amounting
to 0.90
11 June 2008,
Mario Hoppema
At the Paris meeting (17-18 June) we agreed on this adjustment, where additional
evidence came from the inversion analysis by Steven van Heuven.

UPDATE
A new inversion analysis has been done (13 Oct. 2008), now with data to which
all suggested adjustments from the first round were applied. This new analysis

high.
