GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is -0.6 ppm.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (+1.1 +/-6.6
ppm).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
9 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is -2.7 (+/-5.0)
ppm.
2 cross overs show significant differences (>5 ppm), but they involve cruises
that are thought to have significant offsets in salinity. When the suggested
offsets are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is -1.2 (+/-2.0)
ppm. This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for salinity.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is -6.6 umol/kg.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (+2.8 +/-2.1
umol/kg).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
5 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is -5.8 (+/-8.0)
umol/kg.
All cross overs but 2 show no significant differences (<4 umol/kg) and involve
cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in TCO2. When the offset
suggested for the cruise 35MF20030123 is taken into account, the average of all
cross overs is -2.2 (+/-2.0) umol/kg. This suggests that no adjustment would be
required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for TCO2.

09AR19960822 - alkalinity
UPDATE: Because the data used for cross over analysis were preliminary, a
systematic offset was detected in the inversion and the regional analysis.
Importantly, the data was updated after the cross-over analysis and the final
alkalinity data (provided by the data PI) is coherent with other cruise data.
Consequently no adjustment is recommeneded for alkalinity.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is +2.2 umol/kg.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment could be required (-6.3
+/-2.8 umol/kg).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
4 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is +3.9 (+/-11.0)
umol/kg.
Only 1 cross over shows no significant differences (<5 umol/kg), but it involves
a cruise that is thought to have high alkalinity values. When the suggested
offsets are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is +14.4 (+/-0.9)
umol/kg. This suggests that an adjustment of -14 umol/kg could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses suggest high alkalinity values, but different
adjustments are proposed: -6 umol/kg or -14 umol/kg, respectively. The latter
adjustment is preferred because it agrees with the PI’s recommendation to
decrease alkalinity by 13.7 umol/kg (Bronte Tilbrook, personal communication).
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of -13.7 umol/kg for alkalinity.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.004.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.05 could be
required (1.053 +/-0.024).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
8 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 1.005 (+/-0.061).
All cross overs but 1 show significant differences ranging from 0.93 to 1.10,
and none of them involve a cruise that is thought to have no significant offset
in phosphate. When the suggested offsets are taken into account, the average of
all cross overs is 1.000 (+/-0.004). This suggests that no adjustment would be
required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses disagree. The former suggests an adjustment of
1.05, whereas the latter suggests no adjustment in good agreement with the PI’s
recommendation (Bronte Tilbrook, personal communication).
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for phosphate.

09AR19960527 became 09AR19960822
Cruise 09AR19960527 became 09AR19960822 as the former was not correct - overall
data and plots etc. from 8 crossovers were migrated to the identical crossovers
of cruise 09AR19960822 to correct this issue; cruise entry 09AR19960527 was then
removed completely

09AR19960822 - oxygen
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.039.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests an adjustment of 0.956 (+/-0.006).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
9 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 1.044 (+/-0.021).
All cross overs show significant differences ranging from 1.015 to 1.79. 4 of
them involve cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in oxygen,
suggesting an offset around 1.04. When the offsets suggested for the other
cruises are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is 1.039
(+/-0.003). This suggests that an adjustment of 0.96 could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 0.96 for oxygen.

09AR19960822 - silicate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.028.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (1.011
+/-0.030).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
9 cross overs were analyzed, but 1 is discarded due to large uncertainty (with
cruise 09AR19930404). The average of the 8 cross overs is 1.035 (+/-0.049).
2 cross overs show no significant differences (<2%) and involve cruises that are
thought to have no significant offset in silicate. When the offsets suggested
for the other cruises are taken into account, the average of the 8 cross overs
is 1.002 (+/-0.004). This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for silicate.

09AR19960822 - phosphate

09AR19960822 - nitrate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.010.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (0.991
+/-0.015).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
9 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 1.010 (+/-0.023).
6 cross overs show no significant differences (<2%) and involve cruises that are
thought to have no significant offset in nitrate. When the offsets suggested for
the other cruises are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is
1.012 (+/-0.007). This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for nitrate.

09AR19960822 - tco2

09AR19960822 - salinity
