consistent with CARINA and with IO analysis.

Average of all cross-overs is: -3.1 ppm (but strongly influenced by 2 very low
cross-overs of cruises 90AV20041104 and 91AA19971204).
Inversion analysis suggests an insignificant adjustment.
Cross-overs with other core cruises (06AQ19920521, 316N19831007) do not warrant
an adjustment.

The IO inversion suggest a -5 umol/kg adjustment and the mean of the crossovers
is 5.3. CARINA suggest that -4 umol/kg correction.
A careful analysis of the data by van Heuven et al 2011 (DSR-II) suggest an
adjustment of -0.6.
We choose to follow the suggestion of van Heuven, and since this is below the
threshold of 4 umol/kg, we don't apply any adjustment.

06AQ19960317 - phosphate
Existing nutrient data (NO3, NO2, PO4, SIL) was replaced late January 2015 with
new data produced by Karel Bakker (RoyalNIOZ, NL). New data are on single
calibration scale for Polarstern Weddell Gyre cruises 06AQ19960317,
06AQ19980328, 06AQ20050122, 06AQ20080210 and 06AQ20101128. I verified data to be
exceptionally compatible between these five cruises, as well as with other
cruises in the Weddell Gyre. Adjustments for these nutriets for these 5 cruises
will therefore be reverted to 1. As a single exception, I believe the SIL data
for 06AQ19980328 to be biased ~1.5% high despite the normalization effort.

Weddell Sea nutrient data have been re-assessed at by Karel Bakker (nuts chemist
at NIOZ) in August 2014. Results (made consistent between cruises using NIOZ
long-term nutrient standards) for SIL are +5% higher than what we currently have
(likely largely due to data handling errors in the past). The improved datasets

Average of all cross-overs is: 0.984
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of 1.030
The analysis is inconclusive. Many cruises appear to support an adjustment, but
some important ones not. As overall oxygen of cruise 06AQ19960317 appears to be
low (av. 0.984) indeed, I suggest a small adjustment.
Therefore, I suggest an adjustment of oxygen for cruise 06AQ19960317 of 1.02

UPDATE
A new inversion analysis has been done (13 Oct. 2008), now with data to which
all suggested adjustments from the first round were applied. This new analysis
suggests an adjustment of 0.992
This indicates that the initial adjustment may have been too high. This is
further corroborated by cross-overs in the Indian sector. Note that the
cross-over results for this cruise are somewhat inconclusive indeed (see above).
Therefore I suggest to modify the adjustment of oxygen to 1.01

Tight relationship between CFC11 and CFC12, and consistent (but low) surface
saturation. Thus no adjustment is recommended.

As a single exception, I believe the SIL data
for 06AQ19980328 to be biased ~1.5% high despite the normalization effort.

long-term nutrient standards) for SIL are +5% higher than what we currently have

06AQ19960317 - oxygen
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.984
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of 1.030
