06MT19990610 - ph

Original pH scale changed to TS22 (Total Scale at 22º),
This an increment on 1º on the previously supposed scale, and results in pH SWS25 increased in 0.014, so the adjustment now is +0.006

The CFCs were included in a late stage for this cruise and therefore they were not included in the crossover analysis. The other CFCs from this cruise are consistent with the values from other CARINA cruises between 1995 and 1997, but there is an issue with the CCl4 values, which are both clearly lower, for almost all parts of the water column, and with a much larger uncertainty. At the same time the surface saturation of CCl4 fro this cruise seem even some what higher than for the compared cruises. Due to this, and the fact that there are good data from the other cruises between 1995 and 1997 I recommend to excluded the CCl4 data from this cruise from the merged data product.
recommended to be included in the merged data set.

The CFCs were included in a late stage for this cruise and therefore they were not included in the crossover analysis. However, the CFC113 values from 74JC19960720 are consistent with the values from other CARINA cruises between 1995 and 1997, and the uncertainty in the data seems OK, and they are thus recommended to be included in the merged data set.

The CFCs were included in a late stage for this cruise and therefore they were not included in the crossover analysis. However, the CFC11 values from 74JC19960720 are consistent with the values from other CARINA cruises between 1995 and 1997, and the uncertainty in the data seems OK, and they are thus recommended to be included in the merged data set.

74AB19910614 - alkalinity

Only two samples deep enough for 2nd QC, although both of them are biased low. A plot of surface alk/sal relation flags the surface data for this cruise as an outlier.
Based on these evidence the alkalinity data were flagged "poor".

06MT19970107 - tco2

The cross-overs done with a 5 degree limit show that, if anything, the cruise has higher TCO2 values than other cruises in the region. Due to the location of the cross-overs (Mediterranean outflow) and the spread of the cross-over values, it was agreed to change the adjustment to -888.

18HU19941012 - nitrate

The nitrate values for this cruise was added very late, i.e. after the formal 2nd QC. However, by examining the crossover plots from the crossover analysis made on the final merged data file, it seems that the nitrate data don't need any adjustment.
The nitrate value is a bit high for a number of crossovers, but this cruise was conducted in an area of high variability and the crossovers mostly confirm no adjustment within the significace.
